Health - Severe Hypertension

Editorial policy

Sunday, Dec 23 2007

At, it’s our mission to provide you with the most current, accurate and reliable health information available online. We want you to feel confident that you can trust the health information you find here. The purpose of this policy is to explain the ways we ensure the content on our site is accurate and trustworthy. It’s also important that you are easily able to tell the difference between our editorial content, which is subject to review, and our community content and advertisements which are not.

What we do

We provide medical information, not medical advice. Everyone’s health is different. It’s our goal to help you understand as much as you can about your health and to provide you with balanced information that identifies the best of traditional Western medicine along with complementary and alternative therapies you may want to discuss with your doctor.

Your health changes over time, and you have a unique health history ????? which means your doctor and health care team are the only ones who can provide you with specific advice about your health decisions.

We’ll never be a substitute for your doctor, so please talk with him or her before acting on any information that you find on our site or anywhere else on the Internet.

We’re not here just when you’re sick

Being healthy is more than just not being ill. Good health is a constant state of well-being that includes the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of your life. We’re here to support you when you’re ill, but we’re also your guide when you’re well. We balance our disease and condition information with topics to help you maximize your health and to better care for yourself and those around you.

We’ll make it easy

We want to contribute to your understanding by providing health information that’s both in-depth and easy to use. Your health isn’t about medical terms, acronyms and statistics ????? it’s about you. It’s our goal both to create and gather the best medical information and to make it easy for you to understand and use.

Where our content comes from

Our site comprises four different kinds of content: editorial content, community content, links to other websites, and advertisements. In order to allow you to distinguish among these types of content, we provide you with visual cues. It is important to be aware of the cues and to understand how we treat different kinds of content so that you can evaluate the information provided.

Editorial Content

The core of our site is the editorial content. Editorial content includes articles, video files, audio files, graphics, photographs, calculators, trackers and assessment tools that are published on the site at the direction of our Editorial and Content teams.

There are 2 types of editorial content:

1. content, which we create or commission
2. Licensed content, which we license from some of the leading health publishers and trusted names in health care, including the Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic and Harvard Health Publications.

The sources of editorial content are clearly marked at the beginning or end of each article. For example, content is marked “Provided by” and licensed content is marked “Provided by Mayo Clinic” or “Provided by Healthwise” or other content providers as appropriate.

Editorial content is selected by our experienced team of content programmers and editors and is subject to the editorial and medical review process described below.

Community Content

Community content (material generated by users of our site) appears within the Community area, which you can find via the “Community” section of the site.

We believe that people have important information to share based on their personal experiences and points of view. Because this community content is, by nature, personal and constantly being created, we do not subject it to medical review. Since everyone’s health situation is unique, we urge you to use caution when evaluating this information.

Updates to this policy

We will review this policy frequently and may revise it periodically. If we make changes to this policy, we will post the updated policy here. This policy’s effective date will be identified at the top of the page.
